The word picture in Philippians 3:12-13 is of men straining to win a foot race. Paul uses this imagery to communicate how we must strive to give and be our very best for God, regardless of what obstacles seem to appear along our paths. God's grace and salvation must precede our determined state of mind in order for us to truly win the race!
