“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” – Isaiah 55:12
This piece of photo art I did has great meaning to me. Last year in September I went to spend time with my best friend Brenda in Southern Illinois as she was preparing to let her mother, Lillian, “go home” to be with the Lord. Lillian had fought a 30+ year battle with cancer, and after years of watching God heal her and sustain her life miraculously, Jesus finally healed Lillian once and for all as He took her home to be with Himself in heaven on September 23, 2011.
While I was visiting during that difficult week, I took this photo of the old road next to Brenda’s grandparent’s house. It was a cloudy day, but the sky was uniquely bright. As I stopped and looked out across that road, I felt deeply moved by the way the landscape seemed to sweep me up into it’s rich, wonderful history. I have so much reverence for the stories that old land could tell.... It was such a sweet, personal moment for me. To further the story of this image, I stylized the background with wood from the old barn (house) my friend Brenda’s Daddy was born in. I’m sure that old wood could tell some great stories too!
Today, December 5th, is Lillian’s birthday! I thought it would be fitting to post this piece on her birthday because in so many ways, Lillian’s “going home” to be with Jesus was a new “birthday” for her. She experienced a new birth into the fullness of her life with Christ. So... Happy Birthday Lillian! We love you and miss you, and celebrate your life today!
